Eremos is offered to help you in a hard fight, with honesty rather than theater. These terms explain what you can expect from the app, what we ask of you, and the limits of what any tool like this can do. By using Eremos, you agree to them.
What Eremos is
Eremos is a faith-based iOS app that helps you guard against pornography, built on Apple's Screen Time framework and content filter. It pairs a technical guard on your phone with human accountability and friction you choose in a strong moment to protect yourself in a weak one. It is framed as a covenant, not a jail.
What Eremos is not
This is the most important thing to understand, and we will not pretend otherwise. Eremos is not an unbreakable barrier. On iOS, no app can prevent its own deletion or stop a determined person from turning protection off. So Eremos does not promise a wall that cannot be breached. Its real strength is the combination of a guard, the people you invite to walk with you, and friction you set on yourself. We make no guarantee that the app will block any particular content, that protection cannot be bypassed, or that it cannot be removed.
Eremos is also not medical, psychological, or clinical care, and it is not a substitute for professional help. If you are in crisis or need support beyond what an app can give, please reach out to a qualified professional or a trusted person in your life.
Who may use it
Eremos is made for adults. You must be at least 17 years old, and old enough to form a binding agreement where you live, to use it. By using the app you confirm that you meet this.
Your account
You sign in with your phone number, and you are responsible for keeping access to your account and your device secure. Please give accurate information, and let us know if you believe your account has been used without your permission.
Accountability partners
Eremos lets you invite accountability partners by phone number. Only add someone who has agreed to be part of your walk. You are responsible for having their permission to share their number and to reach out to them through the app. Any message to a partner is sent from your own device, through your own Messages app, by your own choice. Please treat the people who keep watch for you with honesty and care.
Using the app well
When you use Eremos, you agree not to:
- Use it to harass, deceive, or harm another person, including a partner you have added.
- Break the law, or use the app to help anyone else break the law.
- Interfere with, probe, or try to disrupt the app's operation or security.
- Copy, resell, or redistribute the app or its contents as your own.
Scripture and content
Scripture in Eremos is quoted from the New International Version (NIV) and remains the property of its publisher. The design, text, and other original content of Eremos are owned by Eremos and its maker, and are offered for your personal use with the app. Please do not reproduce them elsewhere without permission.
Apple and other services
Eremos runs on Apple's platform and depends on Apple's Screen Time and content-filter systems. Your use of those systems is also governed by Apple's terms. We are not responsible for the acts, outages, or changes of Apple or other providers the app relies on.
The app is offered as it is
Eremos is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the fullest extent the law allows. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error free, or effective for any particular purpose, and, as said above, we do not warrant that it will block, prevent, or detect any given content or bypass.
Limits of responsibility
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Eremos and its maker will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app, including any relapse, any content you encounter, or any failure of protection. You use Eremos as one aid among the many things that carry a person through this fight, and you remain responsible for your own choices. Some places do not allow certain limits of liability, so parts of this may not apply to you.
Changes to the app and these terms
Eremos is made by one person and will keep changing. We may update, add to, or retire parts of the app, and we may update these terms. When the terms change we will update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the app's maker resides, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the courts located there, unless the law where you live gives you a right to something else.
